Social, Emotional and Educational Consequences of Undetected Children - Vision Problems
This paper was designed for educators and related professionals who are concerned about learning problems in school-aged children, along with the consequences of these problems.
The link between undetected vision problems, social and emotion problems, juvenile delinquency and illiteracy is reviewed.
A multidisciplinary approach to deal with these problems is strongly advocated.
On the basis of prior research, the author recommends that every child have a comprehensive vision examination prior to entering kindergarten, and additional vision evaluations and specific vision screenings through grade twelve.
