Patient with Pterygium in Both Eyes Receives Life-Changing Care in Singapore

In May 2022, In partnership with the Migrant Workers’ Centre in Singapore, we recently conducted over 5,000 vision screenings for migrant workers and provided them with reading glasses and sunglasses. Many of these workers have little to no access to vision care.

One of our optometrist volunteers shared their story: "During the event, I came across a migrant worker who was suffering from pterygium in both his eyes. This condition was mainly due to long-term exposure to the sun when working outdoors and the harmful UV rays. I shared his condition with our partners to help with the necessary follow-up treatment. He was thankful to also receive a pair of sunglasses in the meantime to protect his eyes now and shared that he would now take good care of his eyes when working outdoors. If not for this event, this migrant worker would have slowly lost his vision without understanding why. I am humbled to have made a difference to his life that day!"
The OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation has been proudly partnering with Singapore’s Migrant Workers’ Centre since 2020 and is committed to providing vision care and glasses to 300,000 migrant workers through charitable screening events.
