A Population-Based Cross-Sectional Study of Barriers to Uptake of Eye Care Services in South India: The Rapid Assessment of Visual Impairment Project
The purpose of this study was to examine the barriers to uptake of eye care services among adult people with avoidable impairment in the South Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
This was a cross-sectional study and 7,800 participants were selected through two-stage cluster random sampling methodology.
The leading barrier to uptake eye care services was ‘lack of perceived need’ for reasons such as old age and good vision in the other eye.
Person-related barriers are more common than service-related barriers in Andhra Pradesh, therefore relevant awareness programs need to be developed.
