Helpful Developments and Technologies for School Eye Health Programmes
There are several limitations on the implementation of school eye health programs.
Essential factors need to be considered, such as visual acuity screening, simple eye examination, refractive error assessment, spectacle dispensing, identification of other eye conditions and referral, and health education for children, parents and teachers.
Standardization protocols are also important, including chart, training, and referral criteria.
Several challenges are faced with dispensing spectacles due to affordability and quality of lenses, as well as lack of health education.
However, new technologies can assist on an improved school eye health program that faces the challenges of planning and implementation of these programs.
