Safety of Spectacles for Children's Vision: A Cluster-Randomized Controlled Trial
The purpose of this study was to examine the safety of children’s glasses in rural China.
The study was based on exploratory analysis from a cluster-randomized, investigator-masked, controlled trial.
Children from 252 randomly selected primary schools in western China were studied.
Final visual acuity for eyes of children in the treatment groups (Free Glasses and Voucher) was better than for Control children.
No indication that spectacles promote decline in uncorrected vision with aging among children.
