Summary of National Vision Care Report

  • This research aims to raise public awareness for visual health and promote the design and implementation of relevant public policies in China.

  • The prevalence of various visual health problems in China is far above the global average and East Asian countries; the deterioration is accelerating as visual health problems are permeating among the younger population more than before.

  • The leading cause of teenage-related refracted error is myopia and age-related eye diseases/disorders.

  • A systematic framework for China’s vision care public policy – that should replace current fragmented policies – is needed to address this visual health crisis.
