Vision Screening Claims for Young Children in the United States
This commentary and study, in response to the publication Vision Screening Among Children With Private Insurance: 2010 – 2019, authored by Oke et al, notes that the percentage of children with claims for vision screening increased significantly from 16.7% in 2010 to 44.3% in 2019, mainly due to the increased use of instrument-based screening for children under 3 years old. However, it also highlights a concerning decline in payments for instrument-based screening over time, raising questions about the adoption and use of this technology. Overall, authors underscore the importance of vision screening in early detection and management of visual impairments among young children.
