In August 2022, Eugenia Chan, Optometrist at OPSM served patients at a OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation clinic in Townsville. Reflecting on her experience, Eugenia shared, “I recently had the opportunity to be part of the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation clinic team that saw 791 children in need across 5 schools in the Townsville area. I found the clinic to be an eye-opening, challenging, and rewarding experience and was proud of our collaborative mission to overcome barriers in accessing vision care and alleviating the burden from preventable visual impairment on individual and community levels. It really reminded me of why ‘I care’ and work in eye care.”

“Vision plays such an important role in the physical, cognitive, and social development of children. And I am grateful we were able to connect meaningfully with the wider community and positively impact these children’s lives. One young student with uncorrected myopia who I tested, reported that she had been struggling to see the classroom board for 2 years before her parents took her to a local optometrist last year and were advised that she needed a pair of glasses. Ultimately, they were not able to afford these glasses. They were thankful to hear that OneSight would be holding a clinic at their daughter’s school, and it was a heartfelt moment seeing her light up when she put on the trial frame and saw what the world around her could look like with clear sight. Through our help she now has the chance to ‘See More and Be More’,” said Eugenia.
